Chapter 13. HEALTH AND SANITATION |
Article V. REGISTERED CHILD CARE HOMES |
§ 13-90. Definitions.
Unless otherwise expressly stated or the context clearly indicates a different intention, the following terms shall, for the purpose of this article, have the meanings indicated in this section:
Capacity means the maximum number of children that a permit holder may care for at one time.
Child means a person under eighteen (18) years old.
Immunization record means a document of immunizations given to a child as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and necessary documentation as required by the City of Grand Prairie regulatory authority and the State of Texas Regulatory Authority.
Kindergarten age means at least five (5) years of age on September 1.
Listed child care home means a home that keeps no more than three (3) unrelated children.
Permit means a complete document issued to the approved applicant of a registered family home authorizing operation at a specified location in accordance with the provision of this article.
Permit holder means the person granted the permit.
Pre-kindergarten age means three (3) and four (4) years of age.
Registered child-care home means a private residence permitted by the City of Grand Prairie in which the caregiver:
(a)
Takes care of children in his/her primary residence; and
(b)
Takes care of no more than six (6) children under age fourteen (14) years, plus no more than six (6) additional school age children. The total number (counting his/her own children) is no more than twelve (12) children at any time.
Regulatory authority means any municipal officer or department of the city appointed by the city manager to administer this article.
Regular care means care that is provided at least four (4) hours a day, three (3) or more days a week, for more than nine (9) consecutive weeks.
Serious illness means a communicable disease that excludes a child from care. (See Communicable Disease Chart in Minimum Standard Rules for Registered Child Care Homes)
State of Texas Regulatory Agency means the department or state official that has been appointed by the State of Texas to enforce the Minimum Standard Rules for Registered Child-Care Homes.
Substitute caregiver in a registered family home means a person at least eighteen (18) years of age that has a negative tuberculin (TB) test and is certified in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid, and has had a criminal history check done by the State of Texas Regulatory Agency to determine compliance with state requirements. The substitute is a temporary caregiver who cares for children for a limited amount of time while the caregiver is out of the home (i.e. doctor appointments, errand, etc.)
