§ 2-5. Absence or disability of mayor or mayor pro tem.
If the mayor and the mayor pro tem are at the same time absent from the city or each disabled whereby neither can perform the duties and obligations of the office, then the council shall elect another of its members to act as mayor during such period of absence or disability. It shall be the duty of the mayor and of the mayor pro tem, before leaving the city whereby either cannot act as mayor and perform the duties and obligations of the office, to notify the city secretary of the time, place and duration of such absence and the city secretary shall then notify the official who is to act as mayor during this period of absence of the mayor, or of the mayor and mayor pro tem.
