§ 5-4. Animal shelter advisory committee; duties generally; membership; meetings.

  • There is hereby created an animal shelter advisory committee, as provided in the V.T.C.A., Health and Safety Code ch. 823. The animal shelter advisory committee shall assist the animal services division in ensuring that the standards for animal shelters, as contained in the V.T.C.A., Health and Safety Code ch. 823, as amended, are complied with. The animal shelter advisory committee shall be composed of thirteen (13) members. Members of the committee shall serve at the discretion of the city council. Composition of the animal shelter advisory committee shall be as follows: Nine (9) members shall be citizens; one (1) member shall be a licensed veterinarian; one (1) shall have duties which include the daily operation of an animal shelter; one (1) shall be the city's environmental services director; and one (1) shall be a representative of an animal welfare organization. The member whose duties include the daily operation of the shelter and the environmental services director shall serve as voting ex-officio members. The animal shelter advisory committee shall meet at least three (3) times a year and five (5) members of the board shall constitute a quorum. Members of the animal shelter advisory committee are required to be residents of the city; provided, however, that the member of the animal shelter advisory committee whose duties include the daily operation of an animal shelter and the environmental services director shall serve on the committee regardless of residency. The licensed veterinarian shall be a veterinarian either practicing or residing in the City of Grand Prairie.
